Old Age Grant Payment Dates - May 2026 and June 2026
SASSA pays the old age pension first each month. Upcoming dates:
- May 2026: pension pays Tuesday, 5 May 2026
- June 2026: pension pays Tuesday, 2 June 2026
- July 2026: pension pays Thursday, 2 July 2026
These dates are the official SASSA Allpay payment dates for old age grants. If your money is not in your account on the date shown, wait 2-3 business days before contacting SASSA - banks sometimes process payments slightly later.
SASSA Old Age Grant Amount 2026
- People aged 60-74 receive R2 400 per month.
- People aged 75 and older receive R2 420 per month.
Means and assets thresholds (guide)
- If you are single, your income should be about R107,880 per year (roughly R8,990 per month) or less.
- If you are married, your combine d income should be about R215,760 per year (roughly R17,980 per month) or less.
- The assets limit is about R1.524 million (single) or R3.049 million (married).
- These limits are reviewed each year. Bring recent bank statements when you apply.
Who qualifies
- You are 60 years or older and you are a South African citizen, permanent resident, or recognised refugee living in South Africa.
- You do not live in a state‑funded institution.
- You meet the means and assets tests.
- You are not receiving another personal grant.
Documents you need
- Please bring your ID (or a temporary ID/affidavit if your ID is lost).
- Bring proof of marital status if it applies (marriage certificate, divorce order, or spouse’s death certificate).
- Bring proof of income and assets (bank statements, pension slips).

Payment delays (what to do)
If your money is not there on the expected date, first wait 2-3 business days and check again. Make sure your bank details are correct. If still unpaid, call the toll‑free SASSA line at 0800 60 10 11 or visit a SASSA office for help.

Annual proof of life
SASSA may periodically require older persons grant beneficiaries to confirm they are still alive and resident in South Africa. This is called a life certificate. SASSA contacts you directly via SMS or letter when one is needed - if you have not been contacted, no action is required.

Dates are computed against the South African public-holiday calendar; if the usual payment day falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment moves to the next working day.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the application free?
- Yes. There is no fee to apply at SASSA. Beware of anyone asking for money to "fast‑track" your grant.
- How long does it take to be approved?
- It can take up to 90 days. If approved, you will be paid from the date you applied (back‑pay is included in your first payment).
- Can I get another grant with the Old Age Grant?
- You cannot receive two personal grants at the same time. However, if you need full‑time care, you may qualify for an extra Grant‑in‑Aid on top of your Old Age Grant. You can also search for care providers in your area.
