SASSA Appeals (Permanent Grants)
Updated on 24 September 2025
If your grant application was declined or suspended and you disagree, you can appeal. Here’s how for non-SRD grants.
Deadlines
- Appeal within 90 days of receiving the decision
What to prepare
- Your ID and application reference
- Reason you believe the decision is wrong
- Supporting documents (e.g., bank statements, medical reports)
How to submit
- Visit your local SASSA office with your documents
- Request to lodge an appeal to the DSD tribunal
- Keep copies and your receipt as proof
What to write (simple template)
- Start with: “I, [Full Name], ID [ID Number], hereby appeal the decision dated [date].”
- State the decision (e.g., declined Old Age Grant due to income).
- Explain clearly why it’s wrong, with facts (e.g., “My income is below the threshold; see attached bank statements for last 3 months”).
- List attachments (bank statements, medical reports, affidavits).
- End with your contact details and signature.
After you appeal
- The DSD tribunal reviews your appeal; this can take a few weeks to a few months.
- If successful, payments are back‑paid from the correct date.
- Keep your phone number and banking details up to date to avoid delays.
