Why coastal is cheaper

Coastal pricing zones are closer to refineries and import terminals (Cape Town, Durban, Mossel Bay). Inland prices include a transport differential to cover the cost of moving fuel inland by pipeline, rail and road.

SA fuel prices are reviewed monthly and adjusted on the first Wednesday of each month. The adjustment is based on the average international Brent crude oil price, the USD/ZAR exchange rate, and the basic fuel price formula. Effective dates may shift if the first Wednesday is a public holiday.

Fuel zones are determined by magisterial district, not strictly by province - a small number of districts in border areas may have non-standard pricing.
