BizPortal vs CIPC eServices: Which Should You Use? (2026)
OurPower - Last verified 2026-05-03
The short answer
BizPortal is for SA citizens registering a simple Pty fast. CIPC eServices is for everything else - foreign directors, complex MOIs, NPCs, name objections, and most post-registration changes.
Both are official CIPC-run portals. They are not competitors. They are different doors into the same system.
Use BizPortal when
- All directors have SA IDs.
- You're registering a standard Pty (Profit Company).
- You're happy with the short-form MOI (CoR15.1A) - it covers most one-to-three-director SMEs.
- You want SARS tax, UIF and PAYE registered in the same flow.
- You want to pay R125 (no name) or R175 (with name).
Use CIPC eServices when
- Any director is a foreign national.
- You're registering a Non-Profit Company (NPC) - long-form MOI required.
- You want a long-form MOI from day one (R475).
- You're amending an MOI, changing directors, or filing a name objection.
- You're filing Beneficial Ownership.
- You're filing a Notice of Change (CoR21.1).
What's the catch
CIPC eServices used to allow public name searches without login. Since 2024 it requires login (POPI compliance). The free public name search has been moved to BizPortal. So even if you're going to register on eServices, you might still bounce to BizPortal for the name check.
BizPortal only does new Pty + standard post-registration. If you need anything later (MOI change, BO filing, AR amendment) you'll need an eServices login.
Frequently asked questions
Is BizPortal cheaper than CIPC eServices?
BizPortal pricing is identical to eServices for the same forms. The 'cheaper' impression is because BizPortal defaults to the short-form MOI (R175) while eServices is often used with the long-form (R475).
Can I switch from BizPortal to eServices later?
Yes. Your company exists in one CIPC database. You log in to whichever portal you need.
Is BizPortal a real CIPC portal?
Yes. BizPortal is a CIPC product, run with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition. The .gov.za domain is a giveaway.
