• June 2026: Thursday, 4 June 2026

How much you get (2025)

The Foster Child Grant pays R1,250 per month for each foster child in your care.

Who qualifies?

• You are a court‑appointed foster parent caring for a child under 18. If the child is still in school after 18, a court can extend the foster order (and the grant) up to age 21.
• There is no means test for this grant. It depends on the child’s foster status confirmed by a valid court order.

What you need

• Your foster care court order.
• Your ID and the child’s birth certificate.
• Bank details are recommended for easier payments.

How long it lasts

• The grant continues until the foster care court order expires or the child turns 18.
• If the child is still in school at 18, the Children’s Court can extend the order (and the grant) up to 21.

How to apply

1. Visit a SASSA office with your court order and documents listed above.
2. An official will help you complete the application form.
3. Keep your receipt. If approved, payment back‑dates to your application date.
