SASSA Disability Grant (2025)
Disability Grant pay dates - September 2025: Wednesday, 3 September 2025. Next month (October 2025): Friday, 3 October 2025. Payments happen in this order: Older Persons → Disability → Children & Others.
How much you get (2025)
The Disability Grant pays R2,315 per month in 2025.
Who qualifies?
- You must be 18–59 years old and have a disability, medically certified, that makes you unfit for work.
- You need to meet the income and assets tests (similar to the Old Age Grant thresholds).
- You cannot receive another personal grant at the same time.
Temporary vs permanent
- Temporary: This is granted for 6–12 months. If your condition continues, you will need to re‑apply before it ends.
- Permanent: This is for long‑term conditions. SASSA may still review your grant from time to time.
Medical assessment
You will need a recent medical report (usually not older than 3 months). SASSA may also ask their own medical officer to review your case before approval.
Documents you need
- Please bring your ID (or a temporary ID/affidavit if your ID is lost).
- Bring your recent medical report (not older than 3 months).
- Bring proof of income and assets if you have any (bank statements, pension slips).
- Bank account details are recommended for easier payments.
- Proof of residence helps, if available.
How to apply
- Visit a SASSA office with your ID, recent medical report (≤3 months), proof of income/assets, and bank details.
- An official will help you complete the form and capture your documents. Ask if anything is unclear.
- Keep your receipt. The outcome is usually given within 90 days. If approved, back‑pay from your application date is included.
Payments & reviews
- See the current Disability pay date here: SASSA Payment Dates.
- Please respond to any review requests from SASSA to avoid suspension.
- If your grant is temporary, note the end date and re‑apply early if you still qualify.
Grant‑in‑Aid (extra help)
If you already receive a Disability Grant and you need full‑time care, you may qualify for an extra R560 per month (Grant‑in‑Aid). You will need a doctor’s report to apply.
