Will Johannesburg face a Stage 6 load-shedding blackout on 11 June 2025?

No. Eskom has confirmed that no loadshedding is currently forecast for 11 June. City Power lists only routine maintenance — nowhere near a city-wide blackout. If load shedding were to be implemented, it would likely be limited to Stage 2 according to Eskom's Winter Outlook.

This headline is false. Load-shedding levels are set nationally—Eskom has issued no Stage 6 alert. City Power's official channels show only localised maintenance.

How does Stage 6 work?

With Stage 6 load shedding, the power is cut in two to four hour blocks for different areas at different times. In total, your area will experience 8-10 hours of load shedding per day. Load shedding is implemented nationally by Eskom, not just in Johannesburg. A single 12- or 14-hour city-wide blackout is not how Eskom's protocol works.
