As part of an ongoing initiative to stabilize the electricity grid and reduce frequent power outages, City Power, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, conducted disconnection operations in Midrand earlier today. The efforts targeted illegal electricity connections in the Austin View informal settlements, also known as Floyd Shivambu, and extended to a hijacked building in Halfway Gardens third Avenue, where foreign nationals are operating a car wash.^TM

Team identified unauthorized access from the transformer to informal settlements in Austin View where customers were without electricity for approximately two weeks after their transformer burned out.

Illegal tapping into the electricity network has become a widespread problem that overloads the grid and leads to frequent power interruptions for legally connected residents. The team proceeded to Halfway Gardens on Third Avenue, where a hijacked property is being used by foreign nationals to operate a car wash. Although there was difficulty locating the electrical cable connection, the team successfully traced it to the adjacent building and executed a level three disconnection. The property will remain under observation, as this has happened before at this location.^TM

Earlier today, a suspect medium voltage outage affected customers in Honeydew, Honeypark, and Tresjolie. Operators found everything in order and the low voltage team will continue with testing.
