14-Hour Load Shedding? Eskom Says It’s Fake — No Power Cuts for Gauteng & Northern Cape

14-Hour Load Shedding? Eskom Says It’s Fake — No Power Cuts for Gauteng & Northern Cape
29 May 2025

A cluster of copy-and-paste “news” pages are claiming that Gauteng, Northern Cape, Western Cape, Mpumalanga and other provinces will endure 14 consecutive hours of load shedding under a “complete province-wise plan” allegedly released by Eskom. Eskom has issued no such document. In fact, it has publicly labelled the story fake news.

What Eskom’s Winter 2025 Outlook Really Says

No load shedding is expected this winter if unplanned breakdowns stay below 13 000 MW.
• If breakdowns rise to 15 000 MW, Eskom foresees at most 21 days of cuts over the whole 153-day winter, and only up to Stage 2—not a blanket 14-hour outage.

Official Statements Denying a 14-Hour Plan

• Eskom’s media desk and social-media channels have categorically rejected the 14-hour outage, confirming there is no published schedule of that kind.

• Independent coverage from national outlets reiterates Eskom’s position: the grid is currently stable and no plans exist for a 14-hour power outage.

How to Spot a Hoax Schedule

  • Missing source links: if the article does not provide an official source on Eskom's website or X.com feed, cites only unnamed “officials” or links to other blogs, treat with caution.
  • Sensational wording: phrases like brace for blackouts plus exact multi-hour figures weeks in advance are red flags.

Where to Get Verified Information

  1. Eskom’s X (Twitter) feed: @Eskom_SA for real-time stage changes.
  2. The official Eskom.gov.za media room for PDF bulletins.
  3. Ourpower.co.za— we consolidate Eskom updates and municipal notices and bring you an up to date and real time view of announced load shedding schedules.

The Bottom Line

As of 29 May 2025, there is no Eskom 14-hour load-shedding plan for any South African province. Load-shedding remains a short-term, stage-by-stage tool Eskom uses only when generation shortfalls demand it. Save, share and stay sceptical: these websites are publishing new fake news articles every day - if the headline sounds extreme and cites no primary source, it’s almost certainly fake.
